ASSISTANT CONDUCTOR FELLOWSHIP
At the start of the 20th season, VOX established its first Assistant Conductor Fellowship, an annual position offered to aspiring conductors who will participate in the VOX chorus; receive one-on-one mentorship from Dr. Levine; conduct the chorus at several special events and for one or two pieces at VOX concerts; and help to execute the Youth Outreach Programs.
Applications for the fellowship are accepted year round. Auditions are held in August.

Meet the 2017-2018 Assistant Conductor Fellow!
Lori Marie Rios is in her 11th year as Associate Professor of Music at College of the Canyons, where she conducts the Chamber Singers and Voices of the Canyons. She also administrates the Individualized Voice Program and teaches voice. She has recently been appointed as Artistic Director of the Los Angeles Bach Festival where she has served as the Assistant Director for the past 9 years.
Professor Rios has prepared chorus's for the Los Angeles Bach Festival, Foothill Master Chorale, Don Brinegar Singers, Idyllwild Arts Chorus and California State University, Fullerton Choirs.
Lori Marie is currently Vice President of the California chapter of the American Choral Directors Association and serves on the regional and national steering committees for the association.
Prior to her appointment at COC, she directed the choral program at La Cañada High School. Her choirs have appeared at the American Choral Directors Association Regional (2004) and National Conventions (2007). The choirs at La Cañada also performed at the California Music Educators Conferences. From 1991 - 1999, she was Director of Children's Music at St. Margaret Mary Parish School. Lori Marie currently is an adjunct professor at California State Fullerton Music Education Department and is a founding instructor of the Choral Education Workshop hosted by California State University, Fullerton. She has taught voice and graduate-level conducting at CSU Los Angeles' summer graduate program and is a faculty memeber and Assistant Director of the choral-vocal faculty of the Idyllwild Arts Summer Program.
She made her Walt Disney Concert Hall debut in 2006 as the soprano soloist in Mozart's Requiem. As a soloist she has performed the Rossini Stabat Mater, Vivaldi, Gloria, Bach's Christmas Oratorio, Haydn, Lord Nelson Mass, Handel's Messiah and many others. Lori Marie has worked under such conductors as Paul Salamunovich, Don Brinegar, Vance George, Bruce Mayhall-Rastrelli, Jonathan Talberg, and Grant Gershon and Rob Istad.
Additionally, Lori Marie has presented workshops for the American Choral Directors Association, the Nevada Music Educators Association, and the Canadian Rocky Choral Education Association. Professor Rios conducted the Idaho All State Mixed Honor Choir in February of 2016 and will also be guest clinician in Tokyo, Japan and Ottowa, Canada next year. She is in high demand as a choral clinician, guest conductor, and adjudicator. She has conducted district and state-wide honor choirs and will be conducting the Reno All-State Middle School Honor Choir this year. She holds a Master's of Music degree in Conducting and Vocal Performance from teh University of Nevada, Reno and a Bachelor's of Music in Choral Studies.
When not working she loves spending time with her friends, going to the theatre, drinking fine wines and spending time with her husband, Bryan. They have two children, Clayton and Lacey, who have wonderful partners, Karen and Justin. Lacey and Justin have blessed the family with Meadow Moon, a beautiful 17 month old grand baby.
