VOX goes Virtual

Updated: Feb 25

On July 1st, 2020, VOX released it's first "virtual" choir, with a performance of Refugee by Moira Smiley.

A piece that would have anchored our March concert, Journey to Refuge: Finding Home, and was composed by Smiley after she volunteered at the Calais Jungle refugee camp in 2016, the current state of political unrest, economic instability, and discomfort in facing the unknown makes it's message of empathy and understanding more important than ever before. As Smiley says, "Refugee is about feeling bereft and misunderstood, and inviting empathy. We are all much closer to being refugees than we want to imagine." Check out the video below:

While the current COVID-19 global pandemic may have stopped our live performances for the time being, it will not silence our voices. VOX continues to pivot our plans towards online programming for the foreseeable future, including an ambition film project celebrating the fight for women's right to vote in the Centennial year of the passing of the 19th amendment, and featuring a brand new commission from renowned composer Andrea Ramsey, The Suffrage Cantata. Stay tuned for more information coming soon!
