VOX Celebrates Banned Book Week!

To celebrate National Banned Books week, we're sharing VOX's performance of "Heather's Dream" by Ann Hampton Callaway from the March 2025 concert Banned! The piece is based on the children's book "Heather Has Two Mommies" by Lesléa Newman and was one of the 9th most frequently challenged books in the U.S. throughout the 1990s.

In 2024, the American Library Association reported that 2,452 unique titles were targeted for censorship. These bans disproportionately target books by authors of color, women, and LGBTQ+ creators, with themes of racism, sexuality, and gender being common reasons for removal.
